Random Thoughts for Friday the 27th

Sorry I haven't been posting much. Work has been hellaciously busy. Which has left me tired and uninspired in my non-work hours.

But here are a few things to throw at you today:

  1. When I read things like this, I want to argue for forced sterilization.
  2. My "date" (still no third date planned but he continues to email) just had grandbaby #2 (hey now .. he's only 42). I started knitting baby booties for the baby. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not.
  3. A coworker posted the following puzzle today: Dr Dr
I've been told the "Dr" does stand for "doctor" but have yet to figure out what the puzzle means.
  4. The band Bon Jovi was on a plane which skidded off the runaway up in Toronto a few days ago. Everyone was okay. You do not KNOW how upset I would have been had they not been. (gah! ... freaks me out just to think about it)

  5. I'm pondering selling my house.
  6. I am highly impressed with James Frey for agreeing to be on the Oprah Winfrey show knowing that he would be interrogated and called out on the carpet for his lies. I have yet to read the book "A Million Little Pieces" (I plan to) but have heard the hoopla regarding the controversy. And going onto Oprah knowing what you were in for ... took a lot of guts. And, in my opinion, integrity. Someone willing to publicly take responsibility for their actions.... HO-LY COW! Bravo, James. For that.
  7. Today's Craigslist Loser Of The Day:
    No Relationship Required - 40

Just be 19-31, confident, hot as hell, sexy and look good in my arms. I'm single, 6'1, wealthy and strong. I'll open the doors and pay for everything. No strings. No LTR. No wackos. Your picture is required to get my response. Believe me. This will be fun. [uh, yeah ... Mr 40 Year Old. Fun for whom? Lo-ser, move along]

And there ya have it ... today's random ponderings. Have a great weekend, everyone!

I think the answer to your puzzle is: paradox (you know, "pair of docs"? Sounds like a fun workplace!

hey there kat. about the frey thing, i'm sorry but i don't give him props for being on oprah. frankly, he had no choice as she was going to rail against him anyway. i read lots of memoirs and, sure, some things are made up (mostly dialogue) and so i think what he did was horrible, and a disservice to the whole memoir genre as now every memoir will be questioned.

sorry to go on about this but i'm fried over frey :o)

but i am so happy your boy jon is okay and his band and all (was he on the plan or "just" the band?).

you going ahead with the booties, huh?

i hate typos...plane not plan (or is it plain?)

Don't do the booties until at least the 10th date. But what do I know.

I don't know, Ms C. Frey could have just taken his newly purchased yacht and sailed the world til the controversy died down ... but instead chose to face the music. ON public television. I'm standing by my statement that that took guts.

Now ... as to whether or not he's a good guy in general ... no idea. I've not read the book nor actually seen any of his interviews, etc.

Personally I think "memoirs" should be actual things that happened .. but hey ... what the hell do I know?? :)

so, not to beat a dead horse about frey, but he has another book just about to be published so he needed to do some face-saving, mea-culpa-ing. also, i imagine he went on oprah to try to defend himself and maybe he didn't think she would be as hard on him as she was (ooowee, don't cross Oprah!). but, i do have some sympathy for the poor schmuck, because the editor and publisher aren't taking nearly enough "blame". if he did indeed initially want to publish his book as fiction, and his publisher insisted it be published as nonfiction, then he was caught between a rock and a hard place, wasn't he? (see, i can toss in a little grey amongst my black and white opinions).

speaking of grey, i'm so sorry about all the rain up there. it's about 75 degrees here. i just like to keep you posted, you know, in case you need to get away :o)
